The US Women's National Team conjured one of the most inspiring and unlikely triumphs in the history of the Women's World Cup when they equalized in the injury time of the second overtime period to force penalties. It was the latest goal in World Cup history. And it came after the US had been playing down a woman for more than an hour. All of this against a Brazil side that was being led by Marta, the most talented player perhaps in the sport's history.
